Dance Gallerie Recreational Students

Recreational Student Information:

Recreational Student members are considered groups of student dancers who have enthusiasm, and an interest in dance. Student Dancers have the expectation to come to specified classes for the sole purpose of learning correct technique while having a fun and enjoyable experience. These students want to learn how to dance and build upon their skills from one year to the next at a pace that is comfortable to them. They also have opportunities to participate in dance conventions, outside performance opportunities, and a yearly recital.

Students will be placed in classes according to their abilities while considering their age as well. The teacher/director will do this placement. Specific skills and proficiency will be required before they are admitted to a higher dance level. These auditions will not be formal and will be similar to class sessions. Sometimes more training may be needed, and a student needs more time in a specific class. (EX. Just because she has three years in jazz does not mean she should be in a level three class…) this is often the expectation of a parent without dance knowledge. Often a child may spend two years or more in each level before moving to the next level. Otherwise, we would have 20 or more different dance levels. Our studio has only 5 Levels. Level I/II are beginning to an advanced beginner. Level II/III is a low intermediate student to an advanced intermediate student. Level IV is an Advanced Level Student, and Level V is a student at and extremely Advanced Level(ex. Elite Company) this is where it is important for the parent to trust and respect the decisions of the teacher/director for placement of their child. We are the professionals in dance education. We have studied the dance field for most of our lives.

Recreational Student Requirements:

Classes are scheduled on a yearly basis by the month. This does means a recreational student can decide not to participate for the remaining part of the year. If you decide to drop a class, it is important for you to fill out a drop slip at the desk one month prior to you leaving the studio. Otherwise, you will continue to be charged for the class (es).

Parent Note:

(I personally have always tried as a parent to make my children follow through on a yearly season commitment for any sport or dance class they have taken over the years. This by no means, means that you need to follow the same obligation, as I held my children. It is just a suggestion as a parent to help children learn what dedication and commitment are, and in return, they learn to respect the decisions they make in life.)

Parents: The Studio family requires that you as adults support and be respectful of studio policies and procedures. Remember every child is special and deserves everyone’s respect. If you have any issues, they need to be discussed with the director privately for proper attention. When waiting in the studio you need to refrain from any negative attitudes or gossip that may create a negative atmosphere or hurt someone‘s feelings. We want a happy atmosphere for all at our studio families. We are all extended family, and want everyone to feel comfortable in our home. As you, all are aware the lobby is relatively small! Please feel free to leave your child and run errands if need be during their class time. We do ask that you return in a timely manner to pick up students because we do not have babysitters available if you are late. Please keep siblings under control as to not disturb the class going on, or others waiting in the lobby.

Absences: Absenteeism creates issues in the class. If you are not, there you cannot LEARN.

The 1st time your teacher notices, the 2nd time you notice, and the 3rd time EVERYONE ELSE notices!
